Self-fulfilling Reflex

There's a slogan at the end of a computer game advert on television at the moment.
'Challenge Everything'.

Am I the only one to think 'Why Should I?'?

It's a bit tragic, but I just can't help it.

don't worry - i frequently disregard society's calls to be the best that i can be and counter by settling for upper mediocrity.

Entirely.

And did I challenge Schwarzenegger? Q. E. D.

Ah, no, but the thing is, I was challenging their demand to challenge everything, hence getting off to a good start...

I wonder if I could have explained this better...

I think they'd have been better leaving it as it was - the naff, cheesy American voiced "it's in the game". Rather than the current, demonic-scary-child challenge everything.

Besides, it's EA, isn't it - they certainly can't be so naff as to think their range of sports franchises etc. can have a catchphrase with double meaning; not just challenge all other teams but also the very meaning around you. Can they?

I shudder to think.
