On Friday night Krissa and I took a stroll down to Queensborough Park, on the river. It was late evening, and the lights of Manhattan were slowly rising as the sun went down. It was the first time we'd been out of the apartment since my arrival the night before, and watching the windows across the river light up, and the lights of the cars and the ads on top of the taxis rolling up the FDR beneath them really brought it home. I was standing on the banks of the Hudson, and the girl on my arm was the love of my life, and I was here to stay.

and now you know why you did it.... Be happy.
that's really nice (the pic and the story).
you were stuck inside all day the first day back? god, you two must have been EXCRUCIATINGLY bored. my sympathies.
*sighs with contentment*
LOL, well I had a few thoughts as to what comment to make, but everyone else has beaten me to it. It's gonna take me some time to remember you are a US Blogger now!
I'm just surprised you made it out of the flat so soon...
;-)
How on earth did you manage to stand on the banks of the Hudson and still see the taxis on the FDR?
That's the East River, dude! And it's the Queensbridge Park; Queensborough Park is a city in Louisiana.
Kidding aside, welcome to our fair city. Enjoy.
Enjoy!
My very best wishes to you both for your new life together. Big smiles :-)
John - the East River it may well be, but the word river is a misnomer anyway, as it's clearly a tidal straight as part of the estuary of the Hudson River. And it's not called the Queensbridge Park either. It's called Astoria Park and it's locally referred to as the Triborough Park.
And while New Yorkers have a reputation for being rude, I'm sure you'd never want to act on that stereotype and correct a newcomer.
Thanks!
Quibble quibble....
;-)
Please forgive any rudeness; my comment was humorously intended. I assumed that you were talking about Queensbridge Park, slightly downriver from Astoria Park. I sit corrected.
All best wishes for health, happiness, and many lovely walks in many beautiful parks along many tidal and non-tidal waterways.
Wow. She really scared you, huh?
Yowza. I gotta get me a woman like that.
Hey! It was all in fair play! Right? I'm not scary. I don't even have my baseball bat yet.
Get one from the Red Sox; they're not using theirs.
I'm sorry, was that rude?
Don't look at me, I've no idea.
I'M a Yankees fan, I thought it was FUNNY.
Whew! Redeemed!
In the half-dozen times I've driven the FDR since this photo went up, I've been unable to shake the feeling that there was someone over in Queens taking my picture.
I also can't shake the nagging questions "Is the East River a strait, a sound, a passage, or a channel? And when did they change the name of the North River to the Hudson River?"
