My erstwhile (current) hosting company, supanames.co.uk re-enabled the comments. How kind of them. I'm not entirely sure what was different purely because I complained, but...hey.
Things is back up and running.
I know at least two of you wanted to vent about the Athlete post, so...now you can. Comments, laughter, and/or abuse about the beard are all now possible as well.
Be gentle.

Your thought of changing hosts is a sound one, I think. Many options out there. No need to stick with one that gives you such maddening hassles.
I recommend Surpass
And I recommend 34sp.
But you might not want to take my recommendation. After all, you know what they say: never trust a man with a beard ;)
I'm just looking to change ISPs. Is this the season for incompetent internet companies?
Every season, Anne. Every season.
The only thing that varies is how much of the incompetence we each experience as each season goes by.
More and more.
I've already said all that needs to be said.
I too have an (multiple infact) account with supanames, and I too, have had emails which look very similar to yours....Waffle, waffle, waffle Its clear we've not read/understood this but we're going to give a stock answer.
After questioning them as to if there was a serious security hole in their setup, (three mails later before I got an answer which made sense rather than saying "you should connect using your main account and password" - (erm, I think I know how to connect!) they claimed they wouldn't be affected and to try it. So I did, and I showed them that it was possible to deface most people's websites on the same server.
Their response was that this was most unusual and (something specific only to my account) and that I should be aware that on shared servers insecurity.....blah, blah blah and showing no understanding of file permissions.
Having suggested in my first email how to fix it, they don't seem to be bothered, instead chasing round trying to cover the problem, but avoiding the main issue.
Oh, so as far as I can tell the hole is not fixed, but I can't test it because I can't ftp in anylonger.
Any email I send gets a stock answer, saying engineers are looking into it.
They don't even say why/what/time scale of when it will be fixed (buts its all started over 3 months ago).
They really do seem useless and incompetent, and I'd strongly recommend an alternative (as I expect will be doing soon)
