So, tell me if you can...where might a young gentleman purchase a new 20GB non-photo, non-video iPod on this amazing and expanding Internet of ours?
I'm just curious as I'm not bothered about the video or photo storage, and don't want to pay for it if I don't have to - amazon's second-tier sellers are either asking more for the 20GB non-photo iPod than Apple is asking for the 30GB, or they're refurbished, which I don't want.
My ear is to your grapevine. What've you heard?
My least favorite club of them all, Sams Club, always has them. Still showing up online too.

The crazy thing is their price for the 20GB is the best I've seen for a new one, and it's higher than their price for a 30GB.
I just got a new one in September, and the price that was paid for my new "4th generation" which includes the photo option is the same as I paid for my "3rd generation" 15GB without the photo option. Good luck finding the 3rd gen. I'll let ya know if I find one...

I'd reccomend an iRiver (I've got one, got to love that drag and drop, no software needed interface) or an Archos (more "open").
They can run a cool duel boot thing that's much better than the original player software

Hmm, I would be looking at a new ipod so the prices are fixed.
I guess for an out of production ipod I would try ebay. Although for longevity, I would probably still look at a new one. Commuting + video = Bonus
Just buy a new one and ignore the photo/video bits. Seems like it'll be cheaper that way.

just ignore the random video shit. that's what i plan to do, once the heavens open and give upon me some money to replace my ipod which keeps trying to reset its entire hard drive.

Aye, you can just ignore the Photo bits. My Nano has 'photo' capability but I don't use it. Is nice having the album art on display though..
I agree with Gordon. I have a 4thgen that shows the album art and it is nice.
