Puttin' On The Ritz

New design is now live!
It's not perfect (hello Safari and IE users) but it's certainly different and I like it a lot.
I expect a zeppelin to moor to it any day now.

Much kudos and many thanks to Adrian, without whose marvellous ftp and MT style rejigging, this wouldn't have been possible, and to Pete, who helped me un-squish the 'Recent Comments' box.

Very nice. I have a suggestion: the Monthly Archives list in the sidebar is incredibly long. It might be worth bumping that to its own page somewhere, or replacing it with a drop-down list. The Recent Comments list also looks very horizontally squished - at the very least, you need list-style-type: none.

I still reckon you should put the search box beneath the masthead.

Looks mighty fine in Safari to me, except for the wierd colour mismatch in the masthead :)

WOW.

I mean.. wow, that's quite a change Sir. Tres original, well done!

Pete: It is bloody long, isn't it? Good point. Comments, also, yes. Squished. Not sure about the search bar there, because it sort of distracts the eye from drifting down to the main body of text. I am also planning on mixing and matching banners, so the EST.d 2002 is going to take the place of taglines, one-liners etc, I think.

Olly: Yup, that's the issue in Safari. Can't figure it out - it's the same colour blue in hex... IE has a weird white bar below the banner.

Gordon: Cheers! It's the base MT thin-wide-thin, only with graphics on top.

Hey, this is really nice. Very distinctive.

All credit to Stu on the design. I just did some HTML and CSS monkey work to put his design in. Creative brilliance is all Stu.

And it looks fucking great doesn't it guys.

Hmmm, It looks perfect to me in Safari. If someone sends me a screen shot of the problem I'll fix it.

Everything else, I'll help Stu over time fix and tweak each element of the sidebars as and when. And it's a lot easier for Stu to fiddle or others to help him tidy things up now.

Since time is quite tight for me (Ask Verso how little I help him these days) support is kinda piece meal as when I have a bit of time.

Off course if anyone wants to firebug some CSS and send Stuart the changes he can slap it into styles.css via MT pretty easily.

Looks perfect to me in Safari as well... And no point fixing anything for IE, in my opinion. Work to web standards, not to IE standards.

Awesome, awesome design. I feel all inadequate now, my re-design isn't half as shiny.

But then you got a little help from Sevitz, whereas all I got was "like, here's a help forum, there bound to be something about it in there...".

And yeah, put the archives somewhere safe, like on their very own page.

oi ... you got way more help than Stuart in the beginning. I'm just trying to get Stu boy to a point where I can point him at the area to poke at too.

There's poking going on RIGHT NOW, as a matter of fact.

The IE white stripe goes away if you remove the border-top stuff from #header.

The Safari thing will be something to do with colour profiles. If you're using Photoshop, try Save for Web with the ICC Profile box unchecked, and if that doesn't fix it, try it with the box checked instead.

Veeery nice. I'm almost embarrassed to include the link to my blog with this comment - it's looking far, far too dated.

Well done, sir.

Thanks everyone, it's very kind.
